Use Text-to-Speech to Write Simpler

I don’t mind subtitles. They help me visualize complex dialogue for shows like House of Cards. This non-audible preference works in my favor for simpler writing. Lately I highlight my written text, then click Start Speaking in the Edit menu (for Mac). I read along for grammatical errors and then replay it with my eyes closed or turned away. If I can’t understand my own words from a generic computer voice, then it’s too complex. Hemingway, JK Rowling and others wrote so a 6th grader could understand. Imagine how engaging policy like healthcare could be if it were simplified.
